Sara Grey and Kieron MeansMonday 15th February 2010 "… An evening in her company is akin to sitting in a friend’s kitchen, drinking her wine and sharing her songs and stories. When it comes to an end, you feel at peace with the world." - Mick Tems, Taplas "… Sara’s distinguished frailing style on the banjo showed just how this instrument should be played, stylishly enhancing her silky melodic vocals. … new Hampshire born Sara Grey, one of the warmest individuals you’re ever likely to meet … her relaxed smooth singing style was conveyed with effortless ease." - Maurice Hope, Hexham In the Introduction on the sleeve notes of his Tradition Bearers CD Brian Peters says "Kieron Means is a young American singer with a strikingly individual sound. His voice is high and lonesome, yet rounded, and his skilful guitar accompaniments are sparse and understated, doing just enough to support the song. His material draws from the deepest wellsprings of North American culture, from the old-time music of the Southern mountains to the blues – which he sings with startling conviction – and the work of latter-day songwriters steeped in the old traditions. Kieron Means has soul, and I can think of no greater compliment to pay to a singer of folk songs."

Michael MarraSunday 13th December 2009 at 8pm.
"Michael Marra is one of the most inspiring acts we have had here. His songs are finely crafted works of art, offering insightful observance into human behaviour tinged with wonderfully dark humour. Marra is a man for the people, so down to earth, but with a perception most of us mere mortals would die for! As a performer, his years of experience have given him the ability to put an audience instantly at ease, allowing them to fully enjoy his startling musicianship and spine tingling voice. There is a refreshing, rarely seen honesty and emotion to everything he does.

Kirsty McGee & Mat MartinSaturday 14th June 2008 From Manchester. The Groanbox Boys18th May 2008 From Brooklyn/London this duo, Cory Seznec and Michael Ward-Bergeman, play an 'eclectic foot-stompin', boot-shakin', claw-hammerin', box-pumpin', sweat-drippin'-from-ceilin' American folk and blues. Writing their own music, I think their "Hobo Heaven", with its mean harmonica, soulful lyrics and amazing accordian, is a joy to hear. I'd like to learn this one. |

|
